Dr Gupta, an AI chatbot backed by Martin Shkreli, has been launched as “Your Virtual Health Companion”. After being banned from the pharmaceutical industry, Shkreli has now moved to artificial intelligence.
Dr Gupta takes its name from the underlying technology powering the bot, ChatGPT. OpenAI’s technology has created various new AI bots, Dr Gupta uses a modified version that can understand complicated medical questions. Dr Gupta can also enhance its answers by users providing their medical information such as; age, weight, height, temperature, heart rate, and much more.
Dr Gupta allows 10 free messages a month. After that, there is a single paid option for $20/month which gives full access to the site, unlimited messages, early access to new features, and an ad-free experience.
Reshaping The Health Care Information Industry
A Twitter Spaces where Shkreli was a participant led to more details relating to the project. Shkreli said;
“We want to be the replacement for all health care information at the very least, and ideally some of the care as well,”
The accuracy of AI is still questionable. OpenAI recognises that ChatGPT, the underlying technology powering Dr Gupta, can be inaccurate. Shkreli believes it will still take time for some sort of technology like this to replace medical professionals, though.
Although, using a technology such as Dr Gupta’s to seek medical advice can be dangerous. A site disclaimer states that any “errors, mistakes, or inaccuracies” caused by using the chatbot for medical advice are due to the person who sought the advice – so the company is not legally responsible.
