  • Blockchain technology will be used to boost transparency and fight corruption in Bolivia’s government.
  • Crypto revival in Bolivia drives financial inclusion, with businesses increasingly adopting USDT payments.

Rodrigo Paz, Bolivia’s newly elected President, plans to use blockchain technology to fight corruption and modernize the country’s financial system. Paz aims to apply blockchain and smart contracts in public procurement to automate and increase transparency in state purchases.

Paz’s agenda will allow citizens to declare cryptocurrency holdings in a new foreign-exchange stabilization fund. This move is expected to strengthen Bolivia’s currency reserves amid U.S dollar shortages.

While not advocating national cryptocurrency adoption, Paz’s approach treats blockchain as a governance tool instead of a speculative asset. The initiative follows Bolivia’s shift towards crypto acceptance in 2024, which saw the lifting of the crypto ban and institutional USDT custody services.

Recently, the Banco Central de Bolivia partnered with El Salvador to explore crypto policies and boost the country’s digital asset ecosystem.

According to Mariela Baldivieso, a deputy from the Comunidad Ciudadana (CC) party, lifting the crypto ban marked Bolivia’s move toward a more inclusive, advanced era expected to bring major economic improvement.

Following the policy change in June 2024, Bolivia has experienced a surge in digital-asset activity, signaling a new era for digital currency investment and trade. Today, corporations such as Yamaha and Toyota are now accepting USDT, boosting cross-border transactions and financial efficiency.

The initiative has also opened new opportunities for citizens who were previously excluded from conventional banking. In 2025, crypto transactions have increased by 530% to nearly $300 million, positioning blockchain in Bolivia as not just a tech but a key driver of economic modernization.
