Google’s New Cryptocurrency Ad Policy: NFT Games Allowed But With Restrictions

Google has updated its advertising policy for cryptocurrency-related content, permitting the promotion of blockchain video games featuring NFTs. However, the tech giant has imposed restrictions on gambling-related crypto games and those offering token-staking rewards.

This update signifies Google’s effort to establish a regulated yet open approach to blockchain and NFT games.

Under the revised rules, advertisers can create Google ads for games offering in-game items like cosmetics, weapons, or other assets as NFTs. Yet, it explicitly prohibits advertising for crypto or NFT games where players can wager or stake NFTs for real-world value rewards, including more NFTs. Games deemed “social casino games” granting users NFTs are also barred from advertising.

Moreover, games allowing users to lock up their crypto or NFTs to earn more crypto over time are not permitted. According to Google’s criteria, any content that features elements of gambling will face additional restrictions. It requires gambling licenses or certification through Google’s gambling application.

This update underscores Google’s distinction between NFTs enhancing gameplay and those enabling gambling mechanics. It aligns with its earlier policy for Android developers incorporating NFTs in games and emphasizes the importance of transparency regarding tokenized digital assets.

The most anticipated NFT game

The upcoming wave of NFT-infused games is set to elevate the gaming experience beyond the initial play-to-earn games. These games offer a high-quality gaming experience similar to AAA titles. But with the added features of tradable assets, tokenized economies, and innovative gameplay mechanics.

Parallel: A sci-fi trading card game with distinct factions and NFT card ownership.

Illuvium: A sci-fi fantasy franchise spanning various game genres, featuring NFT game characters and loot boxes.

Deadrop: A sci-fi first-person shooter with battle royale elements, offering NFTs to early access players.

Symbiogenesis: A Square Enix role-playing game set in a post-environmental-disaster world, utilizing NFTs.

Shrapnel: A high-quality sci-fi FPS extraction game offering in-game NFTs and user-generated content.

My Pet Hooligan: A stylized third-person sci-fi shooter featuring NFTs and unique movement mechanics.

Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles: A PvP tactical RPG by Ubisoft on the Oasys blockchain.

Wildcard: A player-versus-player arena game blending card game, MOBA, and auto battler elements, releasing NFTs on Polygon.

Otherside: A metaverse game by Yuga Labs featuring NFT-based land plots and shared game content creation.

Gran Saga: Unlimited: A high fantasy MMORPG offering in-game items such as Aptos NFTs and a mix of fantasy and science fiction lore.

Star Atlas: An ambitious outer space simulation game with Solana NFTs and a tokenized economy.

MapleStory Universe: An NFT-enabled spinoff of the beloved 2D MMORPG MapleStory, utilizing Polygon for NFT elements.

These games represent the future of NFT gaming, combining the immersive experiences of traditional video games with the benefits of blockchain technology.
