Tech giant Google has recently revealed several updated features and new technologies powered by Artificial Intelligence. Announced in the company’s annual developer conference, Google I/O, these latest instalments further indicate Google’s embrace of generative AI.
During the conference, Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO said, “Seven years into our journey as an A.I.-first company, we are at an exciting inflection point. With generative A.I., we’re taking the next step, with a bold and responsible approach, we are reimagining all of our products.”
Some of the major developments from the conference are Google Immersive View, Help Me Write for GMAIL, Magic Editor for Google Photos, and Duet AI for Google Workspace.

The company has also integrated generative AI into its search engine. Google Chrome will now provide an “AI snapshot”, which will summarise the search results and display it at the top of the page.
Google has also added new features to Google Bard, a conversational AI similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Bard will now be powered by Google’s newest Large Language Model (LLM) called PaLM 2. In an interview with CNN, Google’s VP of search, Cathay Edwards, explained how Bard would function differently than other chatbots.
“We made a deliberate decision for it to only reflect information on the web. It won’t respond with ‘I think’ or express opinions on things. It is not something that feels like a lot of other chatbots out there.”

Google also introduced several new smart devices, such as the Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel Fold.
